CFBuilder standalone and CVS

ColdFusion Add comments

Adobe released CFBuilder to the paying public, as we all know. And it looks like they fixed quite a few things from the last beta. But they also broke one thing, and it's a real bother.

As of this official release, you no longer can manually install CVS into a standalone installation of CFBuilder. In teh betas, you could do this via the Eclipse 3.4 update sites (noted in this blog post). Now, it generates an incompatability error.

UPDATE: The fix to this was to use the correct update site for Eclipse 3.5. The site to use is http://download.eclipse.org/releases/galileo/. I had been using http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/3.5 and that was incorrect. Thanks to Nathan Mische for pointing this out to me!

I am under the other impression. I prefer an eclipse package since I am confident everything will work with it, then adding plugins like CFBuilder or Tasktop.

The only thing I can offer so far is that I'm seeing some basic things not working in the plugin install that worked like a charm in the standalone. The biggest thing I have seen is that my color coding comes and goes seemingly at will.

I get the feeling Adobe spent 90% of their time working the standalone and tossed in the plugin version as an add-on. That would make the most sense to me if I were approaching it.

The final CF Builder is based on eclipse 3.5, not 3.4. If you try using a 3.5 update site this should work. The site I use is the Galileo Update Site: http://download.eclipse.org/releases/galileo/. Select the Eclipse CVS client under Collaboration.

That is a different update site than what I was using. I was using a 3.5 update site - http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/3.5. I will give it a try later on after I do an uninstall and reinstall, and let you know how that worked out.

    Nathan,

That site was the exact answer I needed! I am going to update my blog post to note it. Thanks!

Great! I'm not sure why the 3.5 update site didn't work, but I'm glad the Galileo site did.
